I purchased this vehicle in 1992 with 48,550 miles on the odometer. All service records are available since 1992. To my knowledge, the mileage is accurate. All factory recalls have been performed, and regular maintenance has been performed since 1992 (I don't have any earlier service records). The vehicle may be viewed on south shore of Long Island.

The vehicle is fast, comfortable, and cruises well at 80 mph. Cruise control works. Clock and all gauges work. The large sunroof works well with no leaks. There is a new Pioneer head unit with Infinity dash speakers and new rear deck speakers. The alloy wheels have been refinished with new lug nuts and center caps.

The vehicle is exempt from, but would pass, smog tests. The engine does not burn oil. Oil pressure and engine temperature are maintained well. Springs, shocks and suspension are good.  At 67,000 miles the front windshield was removed and reinstalled with new seals to eliminate leaks.  Brake fluid, coolant, transmission fluid  and oil and filter have all been replaced at regular intervals.  Spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap, fuel filter, and rotor were all replaced at 67,000 miles. As far as I know, the vehicle has never been hit or involved in any accidents and no insurance claims have been made. The frame is straight.

I had fully intended to keep this vehicle and restore it, but illness is forcing me to sell it.  All of my repair/replacement decisions have been made from the viewpoint of holding onto this car forever.

Recent additions (mileage when installed):
CD Player/Speakers (69,300): Pioneer DEH-P380MP CD/MP3/WMA w/remote+ Infinity dash speakers
Battery (69,300): Exide 5 year
European Headlights (69,000): Hella H-4 with Replaceable Bulbs (Big Improvement!)
Tires (Goodrich Radial T/A) (68,200)

Problems: A/C and horn not working. Automatic antenna doesn't retract. Passenger side front window moves sluggishly. Window seals should be replaced. Power steering master cylinder leaks (slowly). Manual levers on dash climate control are balky. There is some rust throughout (see pictures). On the hood, the clearcoat is crazing, and there's a half-dollar size re-paint. Dashpad has some cracks.

I have numerous restoration parts which I would like to sell with the vehicle, which were collected over a 4 year period (see partial list of restoration parts below). The price for the parts will be negotiated separately, but I am motivated to sell all.

The highlight of the restoration parts is a set of beautiful black leather seats front and rear. The original interior is blue leather, in worn condition. The replacement seats are in great condition and are complete - not just skins, but complete seats with all parts (horsehair pads, frames, armrest etc.). I have the four interior panels in black as well, to allow a complete swap out to replace the blue interior with black. (To complete the swap to a black interior, the console will have to be sprayed, a black dashcover added and carpets replaced.)

For those who are not familiar with the SLC, this is the coupe version of the convertible SL, with a real backseat. It was stretched 14 inches from the SL, with the length added to the area behind the doors, and louvers added to the rear windows.  Production quantities were extremely limited - for the entire run of the 450SLC from 1972 - 1980, only 31,739 vehicles were produced. Perhaps this had something to do with the price - highest in the Mercedes line-up at that time, approximately $26,000 in 1976 ($4600 more than the convertible SL), and over twice the MSRP of a 1976 Cadillac El Dorado ($12,000). The 450SLC is rated a 3-star collectible in Frank Barrett's "Mercedes Benz Buyer's Guide".
